Haven’t registered as a freelancer with the Chamber of Commerce yet? No worries!
Here are some steps
To get started, simply visit the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) website or reach out to them directly.
For the process consider:
Business Requirements
- Ensure your business qualifies as a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak).
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally residing in the Netherlands (or an EU/EEA citizen).
- Have a valid business activity that generates income.
Prepare Required Information
Before registering, gather the following:
- Business Name: Choose a unique name that follows Dutch naming rules.
- Business Address: A Dutch address for registration (home or office).
- Business Activities: Describe what your business does (using SBI codes from the KvK).
- Personal Identification: A valid passport or residence permit.
- Dutch Phone Number & Bank Account (optional but recommended).
Make an Appointment with the KvK
- Book an appointment at a nearby KvK office via their official website.
- Click on ''login with DigiD' and select the ''Eenmanszaak'' (sole proprietorship) registration option
- Choose a city and a suitable time in the scheduled calendar.
- You’ll receive a confirmation email with details.
Attend the KvK Appointment
- Visit the KvK office in person on your appointment date.
- Bring all required documents, including proof of your business activities (if requested) and rental agreement if registered at a different address than your home address.
- Pay the registration fee (€82,25 as of 2025).
Receive Your KvK & VAT Numbers
- After registration, you’ll receive a KvK number (Chamber of Commerce number).
- If applicable, the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst) will assign a VAT (BTW) number within a few days, and you will receive it by post within two weeks.
Start Your Business
- Open a business bank account (optional but recommended).
- Set up invoicing, bookkeeping, and tax reporting with Xolo completing your account setup.
- We will ensure your compliance with Dutch tax regulations.
