The acronym VIES stands for VAT information exchange system, a computer exchange system that records all the data of businesses and self-employed workers operating in the European community, who intend or carry out intra-community transactions.
The registration to VIES allows to avoid the application of VAT on the invoice, but it will be applied and paid by the customer in his country.
If you intend to issue invoices to a foreign customer (i.e. a customer whose billing address reside outside of Italy) it is important to first be registered with VIES. During the registration phase Xolo will ask you if it is necessary to proceed with this procedure, however if you did not request it during the registration phase but you find yourself needing it later just send us an email and we will take care of it for you.
